Good Morning Neighbour! ☕

It looks like a quiet week, but the council has quietly slipped in a rule change that affects every street in Harrow.

In today's Good Morning Pinner:

  • Harrow Council approves a borough-wide HMO crackdown, and here's what changed and why it matters for Pinner streets

  • Northwood Cricket Club is opening a Day Club for older neighbours on 23 July

  • Mouse & Grape hosts a truffle tasting on Thursday 2 July

Let’s dive in.

This Week in HA5

  • Harrow Council just made it harder to convert family homes into HMOs. At Cabinet on Thursday 11 June, councillors approved a borough-wide Article 4 Direction that removes the automatic right to turn a C3 family home into a small C4 HMO without a planning application. In plain English: landlords can no longer skip planning when splitting a house into flats for unrelated tenants. The Direction covers every ward in the borough, including all of Pinner, Hatch End and Headstone North. If you have noticed rentals quietly spreading on your street, this is the rule change behind it. Read the Harrow Online explainer

  • Northwood Cricket Club is opening a Day Club for older neighbours. The space is aimed at parents and older residents who want more social connection and enjoyable daily activities, with the launch pencilled in for Thursday 23 July. A genuine bit of new local infrastructure for HA6, and worth knowing about if you have a parent, neighbour or friend who would enjoy it. Reply to this email if you'd like an introduction.

  • Mouse & Grape is hosting a Truffle Experience on Thursday 2 July. An evening of truffle-infused cheeses and accompaniments, with the team showcasing favourites from the cellar and the deli. Truffle season only lands once a year, so worth booking before the room fills up. Book here

Slow news week on the high street. If you have spotted a new opening, refurb, hygiene-rating change, local offer, or shopfront mystery, hit reply and send it over. Bonus points if it involves a sign going up and half the high street quietly trying to work out what it means.

Community Corner

  • Harrow's Heroes nominations close on Sunday 26 July. If you know a volunteer, neighbour, group, scout leader, fundraiser, helper, organiser or behind-the-scenes doer who deserves a proper thank you, this is your reminder. Nominations stay open until the end of the month. Nominate here

  • Ruislip Rangers U9 Whites are looking for next-season trialists. A new U9 Whites team is forming for children moving into School Year 4 in September 2026. If your child fancies a kickabout with a friendly local club, this is the moment to get in touch.

  • A new Day Club is opening at Northwood Cricket Club on Thursday 23 July. It is designed for older residents and parents who would benefit from more social connection and a structured day of activities, and will run weekday daytimes at the club. If you know someone who would enjoy it, send this their way.

  • Church Gardens in Harefield has been featured in a new book. Toby Musgrave's The Kitchen Garden has included the local walled garden, which is a quietly lovely bit of recognition for one of the area's most peaceful green spaces.

  • If you have not seen them yet, Pinner Village Gardens has new information boards. A small but lovely upgrade behind The Whittington, well worth a slow wander on your next walk past.

  • Did you catch the 9th Roxeth Scout Group summer fete on Saturday? From what we hear, the scout-led tombola alone was worth the trip. If you went, hit reply and tell us your highlight.

Transport

The Piccadilly and Metropolitan lines are clear for HA5 journeys this weekend. After two consecutive weekends of Piccadilly pain, there are no planned engineering works on the relevant lines. Worth a quick check before you travel, but a genuinely quiet upcoming weekend on the local tube map. TfL planned closures

Civic Updates

Borough-wide Article 4 Direction on HMOs approved at Cabinet on 11 June. Full council sign-off is the next step, but the policy direction is set. Worth keeping an eye on your street, your alleyway, your neighbour's loft conversion. The full report is on the council's Planning Policy pages for anyone who wants the legal wording. Report pack

Pet of the Week

No crowned pet this week, which means the throne is sitting there with a tiny clipboard, waiting for applicants.

If your pet has recently been promoted to Head of Cushion Flattening, Director of Suspicious Noises, Senior Snack Forecaster or Chair of the Window Patrol Committee, hit reply with one photo, their name, and their unofficial job title.

Closing

Thank you for reading Good Morning Pinner today.

If you only do one tasty thing this week, book Mouse & Grape's truffle evening before it sells out. If you only do one practical thing, read the HMO story to know what just changed on your street. And if you only do one generous thing, nominate someone for Harrow's Heroes before the summer swallows your admin brain whole.

See you next Sunday, same time, same place.

P.S. - If you found something useful, please share it with a neighbour!
