Good Morning Neighbour! ☕

Northwood Football Club is celebrating its centenary year, and the neighbourhood throws a free community party at Northwood Recreation Ground today. A brand new free drop-in for older neighbours opens its doors this Friday, and a Harrow admin deadline is quietly ticking towards the end of the month.

In today's Good Morning Pinner:

  • WoodsFest100 takes over Northwood Recreation Ground today, 11am to 5pm, with live music, classic cars and a centenary celebration

  • The Welcome Space opens at Pinner Village Hall this Friday, free for older neighbours and carers

  • Harrow's Heroes nominations close on 26 July, and there is still time to put someone forward

Let’s dive in.

This Week in HA5

  • WoodsFest100 is throwing a free community festival at Northwood Recreation Ground today. Northwood FC is celebrating its centenary year, and the WoodsFest100 team has filled Northwood Rec with live music, classic cars, choir performances, artisan stalls, dog show, rides and family activities from 11am to 5pm. The kind of thing the neighbourhood very rarely gets to do in one place at once. Worth a wander even if you are not a football person.

  • The Welcome Space opens at Pinner Village Hall on Friday. A new free drop-in for older neighbours and carers, with gentle activities, conversation and a cup of tea. Friday afternoons from 2pm, booking helpful but not essential. A quietly good addition to the village hall diary. Sign-up form

  • Harrow's Heroes nominations close on Sunday 26 July. Still time to put forward a volunteer, neighbour, scout leader, fundraiser or behind-the-scenes doer who deserves a thank you. Nominations take about five minutes and stay open until the end of the month. Nominate here

Meet the Lovely Humans

Know someone local with a brilliant story, unusual side project, or wonderfully niche obsession? Hit reply with their name and one line about them. This might just be someone you want to nominate for the Harrow Heroes award too.

Local Business News

  • Casa Mia on Uxbridge Road in Hatch End has earned a five-star food hygiene rating. Always nice to see a local Italian land top marks from the council inspectors. Worth remembering next time you are planning dinner out.

  • Spotted a new opening, refurb, hygiene-rating change, local offer, or shopfront mystery? Hit reply and send it over. Bonus points if it involves a sign going up and half the high street quietly trying to work out what it means.

Community Corner

  • Ruislip Rangers U9 Whites are still looking for next-season trialists. A new U9 Whites team is forming for children moving into School Year 4 in September 2026. If your child fancies a kickabout with a friendly local club, this is the moment to get in touch.

  • A new Day Club opens at Northwood Cricket Club on Thursday 23 July. Free daytime sessions for older neighbours and parents who would enjoy more social connection and gentle activities, weekday daytime running from launch. Worth passing on to anyone you think would enjoy it.

  • Voluntary Action Harrow is screening "The People's Emergency Briefing" on Tuesday 21 July at Victoria Hall. Free entry, but seats are limited. A 50-minute film bringing together UK scientists and experts on extreme weather, food security, health and the cost of living, with two showings at 2pm and 6pm. Book via Ticket Tailor

  • Seen a local sign, mystery shopfront, very specific noticeboard drama or useful community callout? Hit reply and send it over. These are the tiny things that make this newsletter much more fun than a spreadsheet wearing shoes.

Transport

  • Relevant tube lines are clear this weekend and next. No planned Piccadilly or Metropolitan works on 5 July or 11-12 July, so the usual weekend journeys should run as normal. Worth a quick check on the morning before you travel, but a quiet couple of weekends on the local tube map. TfL planned closures

  • Heads up for the back end of July. TfL has flagged Piccadilly line closures on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 July from Cockfosters to Uxbridge, and again on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August from Cockfosters to Heathrow. The Metropolitan line is expected to keep running between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge during those works, so we still have a westbound option. Worth pencilling in now if your late-July plans lean west.

Civic Updates

No fresh civic update this week. A rare and beautiful admin silence.

Pet of the Week

This week's star is Bonnie, shared by Judy L.

Say hi to Bonnie!
📸 Judy L

Bonnie is back on the throne with a brand new job title, having been officially promoted to Unofficial Foam Ball Tester. Which is to say her testing programme now involves substantially more foam balls, and a quiet but firm commitment to the cushion-flooding department.

Want your pet to take the highly unofficial GMP crown next week? Hit reply with one photo, their name, and the tiny household role they have appointed themselves to.

Closing

Thank you for reading Good Morning Pinner today.

If you only do one sociable thing this week, find five minutes at WoodsFest100 today, or settle into The Welcome Space on Friday. If you only do one practical thing, keep an eye on the late-July Piccadilly closures if your summer plans lean west. And if you only do one generous thing, get a Harrow's Heroes nomination in before the summer swallows your admin brain whole.

Got a story, event, local win, or random neighbourhood question? Hit reply. I read every one.

See you next Sunday, same time, same place.

P.S. - If you found something useful, please share it with a neighbour!
