Good Morning Neighbour! ☕

This Week around HA5
The 480-home "Tesco Towers" redevelopment on Station Road in Harrow has been formally withdrawn. Harrow Council's planning records show the application from Notting Hill Genesis and Tesco Stores Limited was withdrawn on 1 September, ending a near-three-year planning fight that drew a near-2,500-signature petition, a supermarket protest and a scaled-down revision from the original 560-home, 15-storey scheme. A Tesco spokesperson told Harrow Online new investment will now go into the existing Harrow store so it can keep serving local customers. Notting Hill Genesis has been approached separately on whether revised proposals could come back. Harrow Online
Pinner Rotary's Village Show returns to Pinner Memorial Park next Saturday, 12 September. More than 40 stalls, a food court, licensed bar, children's rides and a face painter, with live music from Grimsdyke Brass, Jay Kumar and SD Stars, plus Punch and Judy and Simply Gray on stage. £4 donation at the gate, children free, raising funds for St Luke's Hospice and the Harrow MS Therapy Centre. Charity No 276297. Village Show
Harrow Council has earmarked £6m of investment for improvements to Roxbourne Park. The announcement landed in mid-August, just in time for today's ROXYFest, and is a useful reminder that the same park hosting today's community festival is on a council list for major upgrades. The full detail of what the money covers is still to be confirmed. Harrow Online

Community Corner
Harrow's Heroes 2026 finalists are out, with the awards ceremony in September. Plenty of familiar names from the western patch in the mix this year: Pinner Rotary and Pinner Village Gardens Parkrun in the Team and Health and Wellbeing shortlists, the Friends of West Harrow Park in Pride in Harrow, and North Harrow Community Library in Contribution to the Community. Worth keeping an eye on when the ceremony date is announced and shouting about whichever neighbour makes the final. Harrow Online

Civic Updates
Hillingdon's Open House Festival runs from Saturday 12 to Sunday 20 September. Manor Farm in Ruislip opens across the opening weekend (12 to 13 September), with the Manor House drop-in and the Great Barn open on the Sunday. Eastcote House Gardens opens on the Sunday only, with rare access to the normally-closed dovecote. Most sites are free and drop-in. The Civic Centre tour in Uxbridge needs a free Open City account and tends to sell out fast, so worth booking early if that one is on your list. Hillingdon Open House
Harrow Council is in its late-summer quiet cycle. Not much new on the announcements front this week, beyond the £6m Roxbourne Park investment in This Week in HA5 and the withdrawn Tesco Towers application. If you have spotted something on the streets we should cover, hit reply.
Transport
This weekend: no planned engineering works affecting the Piccadilly, Metropolitan, or Lioness line, so a clean run if you are heading to ROXYFest at Roxbourne Park or the Duck Pond Market at Manor Farm. Buses are also running as normal.
Next weekend: no planned engineering works affecting the Piccadilly, Metropolitan, or Lioness line on Saturday 12 or Sunday 13 September, so a clean run for Hillingdon Open House visits, the Pinner Rotary Village Show, or a Sunday social. Worth a quick check closer to the day for any last-minute updates.
Pet of the Week

Say hi to Midnight!
📸 Nadie
This week's winner is Midnight, who turns six in two weeks' time and is, by all accounts, a very good girl with a serious tennis ball habit and a quiet talent for sneaking into bed for cuddles.

Want your pet to take the highly unofficial GMP crown next week? Hit reply with one photo, their name, and the tiny household role they have appointed themselves to.
Inspiration from previous winners: Pepper the Glossy-Coat Inspector, the Junior Train Inspector at the Miniature Railway, or a certain Head of Roast-Chicken Diplomacy. Whether yours is Chief Garden Inspector (Leaves Edition), Head of Biscuit Security, or Professional Crumb Detector, we want to hear about it.
