Wealdstone High Street was closed at the end of last week after a water main burst near Locket Road. The flood arrived on Friday morning, 23 October, and police cordoned off the High Street in both directions. Most of the water had drained by half past seven, but the road was left under rubble and debris, and Affinity Water said network adjustments had restored supplies to affected homes while repairs to the main continued. No reopening date had been given, so give the High Street a wide berth this week and allow extra time if you are heading for Wealdstone station. Details
Sweetman Hall, the 16th-century house on West End Lane, has come up for sale. The Grade II listed house carries a guide price of £2,495,000. There has been a building on the site since the late 14th century, when the land was part of the Manor of Harrow in the hamlet of West End, and the house took its name from Gilbert Sweetman, who owned it until 1474. Henry Nicholas bought it in 1591 and reworked it into the house that stands today, with exposed beams, period windows, cast-iron fireplaces, two staircases and a pool in the garden. Details
Local Business News
Bamyan, an Afghan restaurant on College Road in Harrow Town Centre, is putting the finishing touches to its shopfront. The signage is up at number 2 College Road and the doors are expected to open next week. If you shop on the high street, keep an eye out for it.
Two Harrow restaurants have made the final shortlist for the British Kebab Awards. Aysu Restaurant on Charlton Road in Queensbury is shortlisted for Best Kebab Restaurant in North and West London, while Yaprak Eastcote on Field End Road is a finalist for Fine Dining Restaurant. The shortlist covers 283 businesses across 22 categories, public voting runs until 31 January 2027, and the winners are announced on 23 February 2027. Details

Community Corner
A West Harrow PCSO has won a national award after residents put him forward. PCSO David Neal received the Neighbourhood Watch Community Policing Award, which goes to officers who go beyond the call of duty to make neighbourhoods safer and bring communities together. Residents nominated him for his visible, approachable patrolling, his pop-up sessions outside Tesco Express, and the personal safety visits he makes to people at home. He said the recognition left him "thrilled and honoured". Details

Civic Updates
Harrow Council is redrawing the rules for parks and public spaces across the borough. The consultation runs until 11.59pm on Sunday 15 November, and covers the replacement of the five Public Spaces Protection Orders that cover the borough, its town and district centres, housing estates, parks and open spaces. The headline change is a borough-wide ban on leaving rubbish or waste outside a bin, including household and builders' waste, which the council calls side waste. Parks rules are set to loosen, with restrictions removed on metal detecting, magnet fishing, overnight fishing camps, CCTV, open water swimming and foraging. Most other restrictions, covering street drinking, spitting, dog control, litter, unauthorised trading, fires and barbecues, stay as they are. Drop-in sessions to ask questions run at Roxeth Library on Tuesday 27 October, Stanmore Library on Tuesday 3 November and Wealdstone Library on Tuesday 10 November, each from 10am to 11am. Consultation
A dedicated hotline and a public map are now live for reporting fireworks misuse, as the council's safety operation runs from 26 October to 10 November. Evening patrols are out from 7pm to 10pm, and residents can call 020 4604 2775 between those hours, or pin problem spots on the council's map at talk.harrow.gov.uk/fireworks so officers know where to go. For anything immediate, call 999, and for other non-emergencies call 101. Details
The 97-bedroom care home at Vernon Lodge in Kenton Lane has been approved. Harrow Council's planning committee voted unanimously in favour on Wednesday 21 October, despite objections raised over parking and flooding near the Duck in the Pond pub next door. Gold Care Homes will demolish the vacant buildings and build a four-storey home, with drainage conditions attached, 16 parking spaces and a legal agreement securing council access to up to 15 beds at a sustainable market rate. Construction could start in January 2027, with completion due by January 2029. Details
Transport
This weekend: the Piccadilly and the Metropolitan are both running normally from Pinner this morning.
This week: the Piccadilly starts going dark from Wednesday 28 October, with no service between Cockfosters and Uxbridge until the end of Friday 30 October. That takes the Piccadilly out of Rayners Lane entirely, so the Metropolitan is your line for the rest of the week.
Next weekend (Sat 31 Oct and Sun 1 Nov): the Piccadilly is closed along its entire length, starting with Friday night's Night Tube. If you are heading into central London next weekend, this is the week to plan around.
