Good Morning Neighbour! ☕

Did you know that the Soviet Union was so dominant in the Olympics that if you sum all medals ever earned (summer and winter), it still ranks second even though it last competed in 1988? No prizes for guessing who numero uno is.

In today’s Good Morning Pinner:

  • £1.4 million investment in Harrow Leisure Centre

  • Northwood FC partners with Mount Vernon Cancer Care Charity

  • No solar panels for Sainsbury's

Let’s dive in.

This Week in HA5

  • Harrow Leisure Centre is set for a major revamp after Everyone Active secured a new 10-year contract with the London Borough of Harrow. The £1.4 million investment will result in upgrades to the existing gym and studios, while also expanding capacity for new indoor activities. The refurbishment works are expected to be completed by summer 2026.

  • Northwood FC has kicked off its 100th year by teaming up with Mount Vernon Cancer Care Charity to put community impact at the heart of its centenary. The partnership, launched on Valentine’s Day at the Skyline Roofing Stadium, aims to support people affected by cancer with events, conversations, and fundraising, including free matchday invitations and quiet spaces for patients and carers. As part of the celebrations, the club will also host community challenges and charity fixtures throughout the year to raise funds for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre.

Local Business News

  • Harrow Council has refused an application to fit 424 roof-mounted solar panels on the Sainsbury’s at 13 Broadway in Stanmore. Planners said the proposal failed to minimise visual impact and did not assess glare onto nearby homes. Sainsbury’s may appeal the Feb 20 decision or submit a revised scheme.

Civic Updates

Key activities from Harrow Council in February in case you missed them.

  • Harrow Council is consulting on renewing the Additional HMO Licensing Scheme for smaller shared homes. The consultation affects landlords, tenants, and residents interested in local housing standards and runs until 27 February 2026 - share your views here.

  • Harrow Council and Meanwhile Space organised a free online workshop for the council's Buildings Back to Life initiative on 12 February. They discussed the key elements of a business plan, including defining and developing your idea, social impact, inclusivity, space management, projecting revenue and running costs.

  • Harrow Council organised a Flood Risk Awareness session at Stanmore Fire Station on 16 February. The session shared information on flood risks in Harrow, practical tips to protect homes and businesses, and prevent costly water damage.

Lost and Found

A lady travelling on bus 183 from Harrow-on-the-Hill to Pinner on Thursday left her Apple laptop (MacBook) on the bus around 6pm. The lady who found it says it belongs to a Mrs Faria. If you know her, please get in touch. Alternatively, respond to this Nextdoor post directly!

Transport

  • The Pinner branch of the Metropolitan line will be back in action on Monday after four days of engineering works. Since the Uxbridge branch was working fine all along, this brings us to Week 5 of the Metropolitan line streak.

  • The Piccadilly line is also back to its normal timetable after the strikes this past week. No disruptions expected for the upcoming week.

Dog of the Week

Help. We’ve run out of dogs.

If your pup lives in or around HA5 and enjoys attention, reply with a photo and their name. One lucky good boy (or girl) becomes the next Dog of the Week.
